TV’s original ‘Batman’ Adam West passes away

US actor Adam West, best known for his role in the original ‘Batman’ TV series, has passed away in the US city of Los Angeles.

Adam West died in Los Angeles, California, on Friday at the age of 88, after a short battle with leukemia, his representative confirmed.

“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero,” his family said in a statement.

The American icon was defined by his role in the 1960s series ‘Batman’. He was also known to a new generation of TV fans through his recurring voice role on ‘Family Guy’ as Mayor Adam West.

West made his feature film debut in 1959 with ‘The Young Philadelphians’, starring Paul Newman.

Batman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books. The story has been licensed and adapted into a variety of media, from radio to television and film.
